The annual Belclare Sheep Society in-lamb hogget and breeding ewe lamb sale took place in GVM Tullamore Mart on Saturday, 15th November. There was a strong entry of 51 females

from some of the top breeders in the country. 2025 marked a new clearance record for the

Society, as the in-lamb hoggets achieved a 100% clearance, with an average price of €610.

Overall clearance for the sale reached 91%, while the breeding ewe lambs averaged €300.

The top price of the day went to John McTigue, Lot 19 of the Balynulty flock. This powerful

ewe, scanned carrying twins, sold for €1,120 to Paul Smyth’s Silverbrook flock. The second-

highest price was shared between Lot 25 from the Alloon flock of Eoghan Barrett and Lot 4

from the Balynulty flock, with both ewes making €920 and heading to pedigree flocks. Both

of Balynulty’s top-priced ewes were sired by the 2023 Premier Sale Reserve Champion,

demonstrating the strength and consistency of these proven genetic lines. This rounded off a

fantastic year for the Balynulty flock in the sales ring, with their pen averaging €870 on the

day.

Trade remained strong throughout the sale. The Slanemore flock of Eunan and Mark Bannon

from Co. Westmeath, along with the Alloon flock of Eoghan Barrett from Co. Galway,

received great interest in their large entries and were rewarded with impressive prices. The

Alloon flock recorded notable top prices of €800, €820, and €920. The Noggus flock of

Ciaran Coughlan achieved a pen average of €770, selling all three in-lamb ewes to pedigree

breeders.

This was the final Belclare Sheep Society sale of 2025, and the successful year concluded on a well-deserved high. The Society would like to thank all breeders who participated in shows and sales throughout the year, and—most importantly—extends sincere thanks to all

purchasers for their continued support.
